SYMPTOMS

After you remove Virtual PC 5.0 from your computer by using the uninstall feature of the Virtual PC installation program, you notice that not all the Virtual PC 5.0 files are removed.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the uninstall feature in the Virtual PC installation program does not remove all Virtual PC files. The uninstall feature does not remove files that were created when Virtual PC was first started. This includes any virtual machines that you created after the first start, Preferences files, and Application Support files.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue and to remove all the Virtual PC 5.0 files from your computer, follow these steps:

Note Before you completely remove Virtual PC 5.0 from your computer, it is a good idea to back up or to move any data, files, or other items from your virtual machine to your Macintosh hard disk or back-up device. After you empty the Trash, you cannot recover any of the data that was on the hard disk images.

Mac OS X

  1. Double-click the icon for the Macintosh hard disk, and then click Applications on the toolbar.
  2. Locate the Virtual PC or the Virtual PC 5.0 folder.
  3. Press and hold the CONTROL key, and then click the Virtual PC folder.
  4. Click Move to Trash.
  5. Click Computer on the toolbar.
  6. Double-click the Library folder, and then double-click the Application Support folder.
  7. Locate the Connectix folder.
  8. Press and hold down the CONTROL key, and then click the Connectix folder.
  9. Click Move to Trash.
  10. Click Home on the toolbar.
  11. Double-click the Library folder, and then double-click the Preferences folder.
  12. Locate the Virtual PC Preferences folder.
  13. Press and hold down the CONTROL key, and then click the Virtual PC Preferences folder.
  14. Click Move to Trash.
  15. Click Home on the toolbar.
  16. Double-click the Documents folder.
  17. Locate the Virtual PC folder.
  18. Press and hold down the CONTROL key, and then click the Virtual PC folder.
  19. Click Move to Trash.

Mac OS 9.x

  1. Double-click the icon for the Macintosh hard disk.
  2. Double-click the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder.
  3. Locate the Virtual PC folder.
  4. Drag the Virtual PC folder to the Trash.
  5. Close the Applications (Mac OS 9) folder.
  6. Open the Documents folder, and then drag each of your virtual machine hard disk images to the Trash.
  7. Close the Documents folder.
  8. Double-click the System folder, and then double-click the Application Support folder.
  9. Double-click the Connectix folder, and then drag the Virtual PC folder to the Trash.
  10. Close the Connectix folder, and then close the Application Support folder.
  11. Double-click the Preferences folder, and then drag Virtual PC Preferences to the Trash.
  12. Close all open folders.
