SYMPTOMS

When you use an Epson universal serial bus (USB) printer with Virtual PC installed on Apple Mac OS 9 and later, you may experience unexpected behavior. For example, when you print to an Epson USB printer from a virtual machine, the printer is no longer listed in the Chooser.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you have special Epson extensions installed that must only be used with Apple Mac OS 8 and earlier. In older versions of Apple Mac OS, USB support on the Macintosh computer for Epson USB printers required special extensions from Epson. These extensions are not required in Mac OS 9 and later. These extensions are known to cause issues when you try to print to an Epson USB printer in Virtual PC.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue in Mac OS 9 and later, remove the following extensions from the Macintosh computer's active extensions folder:

Epson USBPrintClass 1
Epson USBPrintClass 2
Epson USBPrintClass 3
Epson USBPrintClass A
