  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

SYMPTOMS

When you use Group Policy to apply a folder redirection policy to client computers that are running either Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP, the folder redirection policy is not successfully applied. The folder or the folders are not redirected to the location that you specify.

CAUSE

This problem may occur in the following scenario:

  1. You apply a folder redirection policy to redirect a folder to a new location on client computers that are running Windows XP or Windows 2000.
  2. One or more attributes of the redirection information .ini file that is located in the domain controller's SYSVOL folder is changed. For example, the Hidden attribute is deleted from the redirection information .ini file that was originally set with the Hidden attribute.
  3. You reapply the folder redirection policy to redirect the folder to a different location on client computers that are running Windows XP or Windows 2000.

In this scenario, the new redirection information is not copied to the client computer. This problem occurs if the attributes of the redirection information .ini file that is cached on the client computer do not match the attributes of the redirection information .ini file that is located in the domain controller's SYSVOL folder.
