SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, when you use the Nslookup.exe utility to issue a Domain Name System (DNS) query, you may receive the following error message:

Can't get help path from registry

      • Can't initialize resolver.



CAUSE

This problem may occur if Nslookup.exe refers to a registry key that does not exist on your computer because your computer is not part of a domain.

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

Note Because of file dependencies, this hotfix requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
