SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) version 1.21 to programmatically forward or reply to an e-mail message and to request a read receipt, a read receipt is not generated when the recipient opens the e-mail message.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the PR_READ_RECEIPT_REQUESTED MAPI property is not preserved when you use CDO 1.21 to forward or to reply to an e-mail message in a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server environment.
RESOLUTION
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
