APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Internet Information Services 6.0
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.1
  • Microsoft Internet Information Services 5.0

SYMPTOMS

When you run a program that uses multiple threads and Active Directory Service Interfaces scripts to query Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS), memory usage on your computer may greatly increase, or the program may stop responding (hang).

This problem occurs on computers that are running one of the following operating systems:

  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows 2000

CAUSE

Active Directory Service Interfaces provider has a per-thread information cache. This problem occurs because the information in this cache is not cleared when a thread is terminated. Therefore, when you use multiple threads to query IIS by using Active Directory Service Interfaces, memory is used by each of these threads. However, the memory is not released. Therefore, the program may run out of memory.

This problem affects all the following versions of IIS:

  • IIS 6.0
  • IIS 5.1
  • IIS 5.0
