"No Such Object on the Server " Error Message When You Try to Move a Mailbox

SYMPTOMS

When you try to move a mailbox by using either the Data Synchronization Manager or the Exchange System Manager component, you may receive the following error message:

There is no such object on the server.

CAUSE

This issue may occur when you try to move a Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 user mailbox that has been configured to be hidden from the Address Book in the Microsoft Exchange Administrator program.

Note To locate this option, open the mailbox properties, and then click the Advanced tab. Note the Hide from Address Book check box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Exchange Server 2003 . For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, open the Exchange Server 5.5 Administrator program, and then temporarily unhide the recipient from the Address Book. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. On the View menu, click Hidden Recipients.
  2. Double-click the Recipients container, and then double-click the mailbox that you want to open the Properties dialog box for the mailbox.
  3. Click the Advanced tab, and then click to clear the Hide from Address Book check box.


You can now move the mailbox. After you have finished doing so, you can hide the recipient name again if you want to.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
