SUMMARY

This article describes the Microsoft Office XP Alternative User Input issues that are fixed in the Microsoft Office XP Alternative User Input Hotfix package that is dated June 27, 2003.

Issues That Are Fixed in the Hotfix Package

The following issue is fixed in this hotfix package, but it was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article.

  • ALT+SHIFT and CTRL+SHIFT Hot Keys Do Not Work in Office XP

In Microsoft Office XP, the ALT+SHIFT or the CTRL+SHIFT hot keys do not switch between keyboard layouts or input languages.

Note This problem occurs because the Ctfmon.exe file does not receive the hot key command request after you press the ALT+SHIFT or the CTRL+SHIFT hot keys because of a keyboard hook procedure that returns a non-zero value. This non-zero value does not allow other parts of your system to receive the hot key commands, and you cannot switch between keyboard layouts or input languages with the hot keys commands.
