SUMMARY

This article describes how to make the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Help files searchable on the portal site. When you add the SharePoint Portal Server Help files as a content source, the Help content is included in the index where it is available for users to search for and to view on the portal site.

Note You can also view the SharePoint Portal Site Help files by using the following URL, where ServerName is the name of the server:

http://ServerName/_vti_bin/help/1033/sps/html/sharepointhelp.htm

Add the SharePoint Portal Help Files As a Content Source

To add the SharePoint Portal Server Help files as a content source, follow these steps:

  1. Share the folder that contains the SharePoint Portal Server Help files.
  2. On SharePoint Portal Server portal site, click Site Settings.
  3. On the Site Settings page, under Search Settings and Indexed Content, click Configure search and indexing.
  4. On the Configure Search and Indexing page, under General Content Settings and Indexing Status, click Add Content Source.
  5. If advanced search administration mode is enabled on the server, on the Add Content Source page, in the Select a content index list, click a content index for this content source.
  6. Click File share, and then click Next.
  7. On the Add Content Source: File share page, do the following:
    1. In the Address box, type the address of the shared folder that contains the SharePoint Portal Server Help files.

Use one of the following formats, where ServerName is the name of the server, and SharedFolderName is the name of the shared folder that contains the SharePoint Portal Server Help files:
      • \\ServerName\SharedFolderName
      • file://ServerName/SharedFolderName
    2. In the Description box, type a description for the file share.

For example, type SharePoint Portal Server Help Files.
    3. Click either This folder and all subfolders or This folder only.
    4. To include the content source in adaptive updates, click to select the Include content source in adaptive updates check box.

Note If you use this option, changes show up more quickly in search results, but updates use more server resources.
  8. If advanced search administration mode is enabled on the server, specify if you want to create a new source group or use an existing source group.
  9. Click Finish.
  10. On the Created File share Content Source page, configure the crawl configuration and update the settings that you want.

To start an update immediately, click to select the Start full update check box.
  11. Click OK.
