APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition
SYMPTOMS
You may experience slower than expected mail delivery on your Exchange 2000 bridgehead servers. Additionally, you may notice all the following behaviors:
- Messages build up in the Messages waiting to be routed queue.
- If you monitor the network traffic from the Exchange 2000 server, you notice that it communicates with a remote global catalog server.
- When you manually configure the entries on the Directory Access tab of the
Servername
Properties dialog box of the server to configure Exchange 2000 to communicate with a local global catalog server, the problem is not resolved.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you configure delivery restrictions for the routing group connector based on distribution group membership. The instance of the message categorizer in Exchange 2000 that verifies the sender's distribution group membership does not use the global catalog server listing from the Directory Access tab in the Servername
Properties dialog box. Because of this, the message categorizer instance may contact a global catalog server over a slow link or an unreliable link, and message delivery becomes slow.
