SYMPTOMS
When you start a Remote Assistance session with another computer, Remote Assistance does not track who initiated the session or the location of the computer that initiated the session.
RESOLUTION
This hotfix increases the number of events that are logged when you start and use a Remote Assistance session in Microsoft Windows XP. Currently, Remote Assistance provides only minimal logging of Remote Assistance sessions. The following is a list of the new events that will be logged during a Remote Assistance session:
- Remote Assistance connection
- From FQDN to FQDN
- Username
- IP list that is traversed in session
- Remote Assistance disconnection
- Session time
- Time the session was accepted
- Ticket creation
- Ticket duration
- Creation of Expert ticket (Reverse Connect)
- Ticket expiration
- Ticket deletion
- Files transferred
- Start time
- End time
- Result
- File name
- Size
- XML ticket parsing failures
- Control acceptance
- Start time
- End time
- Duration

Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Prerequisites
No prerequisites are required. However, before installing this hotfix, you must turn off Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance on the computer.
The 32-bit version of this hotfix is installed manually. To install the Windows XP, 32-bit version of this hotfix, you must extract the files to a root folder that has a name that is eight or less characters long. See the "More Information" section for instructions.
Restart requirement
You must restart your computer after you apply this hotfix. You must also turn on Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance.

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
MORE INFORMATION
The 32-bit version of this hotfix is installed manually. To install the 32-bit version of this hotfix, you must extract the files to a root folder that has a name that is eight or less characters long. You must also turn off Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance on the computer. To do this, follow these steps:
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click the Remote tab.
- Under Remote Assistance, click to clear the Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer check box. Under Remote Desktop, click to clear the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box, and then click OK.
- Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
- Click Local Disk (C:).
- On the File menu point to New, and then click Folder.
- Type 822407 for the name of the folder.
- Click Start, click Run, and then click Browse.
- Locate the Windows2000-KB835264-x86-ENU.Exe file, and then click Open.
- Type -x outside the quotation marks at the far right of the Run command line. For example, type "
drive
:\path
\Windows2000-KB835264-x86-ENU.Exe" -x. Click OK. - In Choose Directory For Extracted Files, click Browse, locate the 822407 folder, and then click OK.
- After the files have been extracted, open the 822407 folder in Windows Explorer.
- Open the Update folder, double-click the Update.exe file, and then install the hotfix.
Important You must put the 822407 folder in the root of the volume. During the installation process, the hotfix installer may appear to stop responding. This behavior occurs because the installer must process many HTML and JavaScript files. This process takes a long time.
