MORE INFORMATION

The 32-bit version of this hotfix is installed manually. To install the 32-bit version of this hotfix, you must extract the files to a root folder that has a name that is eight or less characters long. You must also turn off Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance on the computer. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Remote tab.
  3. Under Remote Assistance, click to clear the Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer check box. Under Remote Desktop, click to clear the Allow users to connect remotely to this computer check box, and then click OK.
  4. Right-click Start, and then click Explore.
  5. Click Local Disk (C:).
  6. On the File menu point to New, and then click Folder.
  7. Type 822407 for the name of the folder.
  8. Click Start, click Run, and then click Browse.
  9. Locate the Windows2000-KB835264-x86-ENU.Exe file, and then click Open.
  10. Type -x outside the quotation marks at the far right of the Run command line. For example, type "drive:\path\Windows2000-KB835264-x86-ENU.Exe" -x. Click OK.
  11. In Choose Directory For Extracted Files, click Browse, locate the 822407 folder, and then click OK.
  12. After the files have been extracted, open the 822407 folder in Windows Explorer.
  13. Open the Update folder, double-click the Update.exe file, and then install the hotfix.

Important You must put the 822407 folder in the root of the volume. During the installation process, the hotfix installer may appear to stop responding. This behavior occurs because the installer must process many HTML and JavaScript files. This process takes a long time.
