SYMPTOMS
When you try to create a new SharePoint Portal Server 2003 virtual server after you run the DCpromo.exe file, you receive the following error message:
CAUSE
This error message occurs because the network service account does not have permissions to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. The network service account must have Read and Write permissions to create the temporary Abxmcvyl.dll file in the Temp folder.
RESOLUTION
Install SharePoint Portal Server 2003 on a computer that has been configured as a domain controller. Running DCPromo.exe after the installation of SharePoint Portal Server 2003 is not a supported configuration and may cause problems with your SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installation.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
