PPT2002: Error Message When You View the Printer Properties Dialog Box

SYMPTOMS

When you repeatedly open the printer Properties dialog box (on the File menu, click Print, and then click Properties) in PowerPoint 2002, you receive an access violation or the following error message:

Microsoft PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

When you click the link to view the details of the error, you receive an error signature that is similar to the following:

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you have Microsoft Office 2002 installed on a Windows 98-based or Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer and you try to access the print properties more than one time in the same session.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Office XP service pack that contains this hotfix.

The global version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
