SYMPTOMS

When you open a solution in Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002, you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred while loading the document. Fix the error, and then try loading the document again. The error message follows:

Duplicate declaration of member 'Location'

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hotfix information

Note The supported hotfix is for the Japanese (JPN) version only. If you require a version other than the JPN version, contact Microsoft Product Support Services

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, delete the Visual Studio Solution User Options file. To do this, follow these steps.

Note The "Visual Studio Solution User Options" file has an .suo file name extension.

  1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the folder that contains the solution files.
  2. Delete the MySolution.suo file.


The placeholder MySolution is the name of your solution.

  1. Reopen the solution in Visual Studio .NET 2002.

Note The MySolution.suo file is a hidden file. If you delete this file, the following are lost:

  • Breakpoints
  • Bookmarks
  • Other user settings


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Visual Studio .NET 2002 Service Pack 1.
