SYMPTOMS
A process object name may appear in Performance Monitor with part of the file name extension truncated. For example, "PhoneControlEventNotification.exe" may appear as "PhoneControlEventNotification.ex". This problem may cause other programs that depend upon these files to run incorrectly.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you installed the hotfix that is mentioned in the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 327384. For additional information about that hotfix, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
