APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
SYMPTOMS
If you create an offline folder (.ost) file while you are using Outlook 2003 to access a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server mailbox, the .ost file is created in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) format (non-Unicode) instead of being created in Unicode format.
CAUSE
This problem may occur after you upgrade your Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server to Exchange 2000 server. Outlook 2003 may create the .ost file in ANSI format if your Exchange 2000 Server mailbox was originally stored on the Exchange 5.5 server, and if you selected one of the following options when you configured your original Microsoft Outlook profile in Exchange 5.5 server:
- You configured your Outlook profile to use an ANSI .ost file.
- You configured your Outlook profile to use an ANSI personal folders (.pst) file.
- You configured your Outlook profile to deliver e-mail messages to a local .pst file.
Note If you did not select any of the previously mentioned options when you configured the original Outlook profile in Exchange 2000 server, you do not experience this problem.
