  • Microsoft Application Center 2000 Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

If you try to deploy a Web application outside a cluster, the Web application is added to Internet Information Services (IIS) on the target server, but its content folder may not be deployed. The deployment job status indicates success if the Web application was created on Microsoft Windows 2000 with IIS 5.0 and Front Page Server Extensions.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Front Page Server Extensions in IIS 5.0 do not create a Keytype property when Web applications are created.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following options:

  • Manually add a file system resource to the Application Center 2000 application that will replicate the content folder.

    -or-
  • Manually add a property named Keytype to the Web application's metabase node with a string value of "IIsWebDirectory", and then install the hotfix in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

317026 Out-of-Cluster Deployment of a Web Application Fails Silently

Note This hotfix is included in Application Center 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Front Page Server Extensions in IIS 6.0 creates the correct Keytype property, and Web applications are deployed correctly by Application Center 2000 SP2. Front Page Server Extensions in IIS 6.0 are included with Windows Server 2003.
