SYMPTOMS

When you try to install your Microsoft MN-130 network adapter, you may experience one or more of the following issues:

  • The Microsoft Broadband Networking setup program does not find your device.
  • The MN-130 is not listed in the device manager.
  • The MN-130 is listed as an unknown device.
  • The MN130 is listed with a yellow "!". (This indicates that there is a problem.)


CAUSE

These issues may occur if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The MN-130 is not physically installed correctly in your computer.
  • There is a conflict with another device.
  • The drivers for the MN-130 did not install completely.


RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the following procedures until the problem is resolved.

Part 1: Verify Physical Installation

Make sure that your MN-130 is correctly installed in your computer. If the device is not completely and securely inserted in the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) slot, it will not function correctly.

Part 2: Re-run the Microsoft Broadband Networking Setup Program

Insert your broadband networking setup CD, and then re-run the Microsoft Broadband Networking setup program. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup process. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to the next section of this article.

Part 3: Install the MN-130 in a Different PCI Slot

Install the MN-130 in a different PCI slot if you can. Some computers are configured so that two or more PCI slots share certain resources. For example, PCI slots 3 and 5 may share the same interrupt request line (IRQ). This can cause conflicts depending on the devices that are installed in those slots. See the product documentation for your computer, or contact technical support for your computer's manufacturer for more information about your computer's PCI configuration.

If you move your MN-130 to different PCI slot, repeat Parts 1 and 2 of this article.

Part 4: Reinstall Your MN-130 in Device Manager

If your MN-130 appears in device manager, remove the device, and then reinstall the device. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open Device Manager.
    1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
    2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
  2. Click the plus sign (+) to expand Network Adapters, right-click Microsoft Broadband PCI Ethernet Adapter, and then click Uninstall.

    Note Your MN-130 may be listed as an unknown device if it is not installed correctly.
  3. Click OK to confirm the removal.

    Close any open windows, and then restart your computer.
  4. When your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Add New Hardware Wizard to reinstall your MN-130.

Part 5: Update Your Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and Chipset Drivers

For information about how to update the BIOS and chipset drivers for your computer, see the documentation that came with your computer, or contact the manufacturer's technical support department.
