You receive the "Could not create the subweb" error message when you try to install the SharePoint Configuration Wizard

Article ID: 819640

Article Last Modified on 2/5/2007

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Project Server 2002

SYMPTOMS

When you install the SharePoint Configuration Wizard (Stswiz.exe) for use with Microsoft Project Server, you may receive the following error message:

Microsoft Project Server: SharePoint Configuration Wizard

Could not create the subweb.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the Web site for Microsoft SharePoint Team Services (for example, Default Web site) has the same TCP Port Number as another Web site.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, temporarily set a unique TCP port number to your Web site for SharePoint Team Services. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type Inetmgr, and then click OK.
  3. Right-click your Web site (for example, Default Web site) for SharePoint Team Services, and then click Properties.
  4. In the Web Site Identification section, change the TCP Port number to a unique number value (for example, 8080).
  5. Click OK to close the Properties dialog box.
  6. Expand your Web site (for example, Default Web site) where you initially tried to install SharePoint Team Services.
  7. Locate a folder named MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments.

If the folder exists, right-click the folder, and then click Delete.
  8. Double-click the Setup.exe file that is located on the Project Server CD-ROM. Click the SharePoint Configuration Wizard to provision SharePoint Team Services for Project Server.

Note If you have previously installed SharePoint Team Services and extended the site but not run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, you may receive the following error message three times:

    Failed to Create Database Role.

Click OK to close all error messages. This error message occurs because the Database Role was previously created and the wizard is trying to write the role again.
  9. After the wizard has completed, you will receive a confirmation screen stating the Server Name, Web Server Port, SharePoint Administration Port, Database Server Name, and Database Name.

Make a note of this information or take a print screen of the confirmation screen.
  10. Continued to connect SharePoint Team Services in Project Web Access.
