SYMPTOMS

If you change the server connection account after you perform a site reset of a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 secondary site, the secondary site may not be able to communicate with the primary site. If you perform an additional site reset of the secondary site, you are not prompted to reset the server connection account. The Hman.log file in the SMS\Logs folder may have entries that are similar to the following:

The service account name has changed from domain\oldaccount to domain\newaccount.
Re-generate the crypto exchange key.
The service account password has changed.
Install the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the new service account.
Cannot install SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the new service account and password, Win32 Error = 1072.

Re-install the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the old service account.
Failed to re-install the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER under the old service account, you must run setup to reset the site.
Sent the actual site control image to site sitecode.
The service account name has changed from domain\oldaccount to domain\newaccount.
Re-generate the crypto exchange key.
The service account password has changed.
Cannot deintall service SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER, Win32 Error = 1060

Note In this log file, the word "deintall" is a misspelling for the word "deinstall."

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Systems Management Server 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.
