SYMPTOMS
When you try to connect to the Internet by using a dial-up connection, the Connect dialog box does not retain your user name or password.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you installed the fix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
