SYMPTOMS
An advertisement with a program that uses the Only when no user is logged on program property may still run when the client computer is locked.
CAUSE
During the Advertised Program Manager (APM) update cycle, the interprocess communication (IPC) between APM and the SMSMon32 process is dropped and re-created. This behavior simulates a client logging off and causes APM to evaluate the list of advertisements that require a logged-off state. Before the SMSMon32 process reconnects to APM, it detects that no client is currently logged on. As a result, advertisements marked as Only when no user is logged on are incorrectly executed. By default, the APM update cycle occurs every 1380 minutes.
RESOLUTION
Hotfix Information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

How to Install the Hotfix
Using the Hotfix Installer
Note This method is only for Intel-based computers.
- Create a folder in a location that is network accessible to your SMS site servers.
- Copy the Sms2.0-kb818642-sp
X-x86-Yexe update file (whereXis your installed service pack version andYis the language derivative, for example "enu") and platform folders to the new folder. The folder structure must be such that the update file is located one folder above the platform folders. - From each of the primary and secondary SMS site servers in your environment, log on to your site server using an account with administrative credentials.
- Quit the SMS Administrator console if it is running.
- Run Sms2.0-kb81895-sp
X-x86-Y.exe, (whereXis your installed service pack version andYis the language derivative, for example "enu"), and then follow the instructions in the wizard.
Manual Installation
- Create a folder in a location where your SMS site servers have access.
- Copy the platform folders that contain the hotfix files to the folder you just created.
- From each of the primary and secondary SMS site servers in your environment, log on to your site server using an account with administrative credentials.
- Quit the SMS Administrator console if it is running.
- Stop all SMS services.
- Replace the following files in the
SmsRootFolder\Bin\Platformfolder with the versions from the hotfix, whereSmsRootFolderis the folder where SMS is installed andPlatformis your computer architecture:- Ccim32.dll (only if you have SMS SP4 installed)
