Direct Mailer Job Is Unsuccessful When Direct Mailer Resource Is Not Aliased to DBO

Article ID: 818143

Article Last Modified on 10/6/2005

APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Commerce Server 2002 Service Pack 1

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Direct Mailer job from a command line, it is unsuccessful, and you receive the following error message:

[Job Data]
JobDesc=POC Direct Mailer TemplateURL=http://hostname/email_template.asp
MailFrom=user@company.com
DefaultFmt=3
MailingListType=3
MailPersonalize=1
MailingListLocation=Driver={SQL Server};SERVER=servername;DATABASE=site_profile;UID=userid;PWD=password;
MailingListSQL=EXECUTE UspGetMailingList

[Results]
ErrorCode=-2147024891
JobID= ErrorString=[Commerce Server Direct Mailer] Failed to create new mailing list for the job '{4933080A-7540-4A79-9FD3-B9C051C2D22C}': Failed to instantiate ListManager object

This only occurs if the Direct Mailer resource is configured to use SQL authentication, and the account is a database owner who is not aliased to DBO.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the connection string of the Direct Mailer global resource is configured to use SQL authentication ("Use a specific user name and password") and if the specified account of the user is not aliased to DBO. Even the database owner will fail unless the user is aliased to DBO.
