SUMMARY

This article contains an overview of the Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer version 1.5 and Windows Multilingual User Interface Update.

MORE INFORMATION

The Windows Journal Viewer version 1.5 makes it possible for you to view notes and templates that were created in Microsoft Windows Journal on the Tablet PC. Windows Journal is a program that you can use on a tablet computer to take, organize, and mark up handwritten notes. You can view notes and templates in Windows Journal Viewer 1.5 as read-only files. You can view, copy, and print notes and templates, but you cannot change or save them with Windows Journal Viewer. When the Windows Journal Viewer was originally released, support for the Windows Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) was not available. However, an update to the Windows Journal Viewer is now available that adds the MUI functionality for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.

The following languages are supported in the Windows Journal Viewer 1.5 and the Windows Multilingual User Interface (MUI) package:

  • English
  • German
  • French
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Chinese Traditional
  • Chinese Simplified

Note English is not an MUI language.

The supported languages must be installed by both Windows MUI Pack and the MUI Package for Windows Journal Viewer to display correctly.

Scripting Options for Windows Journal Viewer and MUI Package

Because the installation technology that is used for both the Windows Journal Viewer and MUI Package for Windows Journal is MSI, you can use a stand-alone or administrative installation.

For more information about command-line options that you can use with the Windows Installer, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

For example, to install the Windows Journal Viewer without any user intervention, use the setup.exe /c:"msiexec /i ""Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer.msi"" /q" command. For example, to install the MUI Package for Windows Journal Viewer without any user intervention, use the mui_journalviewer.exe /c:"msiexec /i ""JournalViewerMUISetup.msi"" /q" command.

Windows Journal Viewer was built off of the same code base as the Windows Journal program that is included in Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Because of this, components that are loaded by Windows Journal are also loaded when you use the Windows Journal Viewer on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The Wisptis.exe process will be loaded and resident in memory.

Because the Windows Journal Viewer cannot determine if any other programs also need access to this process, it continues to run after all instances of the Journal Viewer have been closed.
