APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 Standard Edition
SYMPTOMS
If the 5250 Client (Win5250.exe) is configured to use a Chinese or Korean host code page, the virtual display device created on an AS/400 computer has its keyboard language type set to JKB.
A keyboard language type of JKB corresponds to a Japanese host code page. This value is not correct when the 5250 Client is configured to use a Chinese or Korean host code page.
CAUSE
The 5250 Client incorrectly sets the keyboard language type to a value that corresponds to the Japanese host code page when a Chinese or Korean host code page is selected for use in the 5250 Client configuration.
RESOLUTION

STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 and Host Integration Server 2000 SP1. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 Service Pack 2.
MORE INFORMATION
The 5250 Client sets the keyboard language type to the Japanese value of JKB when any of the following Host Code Page settings are selected for use:
- Chinese Big-5 (937)
- Chinese GB (935)
- Japanese (930)
- Korean (933)
The Host Code Page setting is available in the Session Configuration dialog box of the 5250 Client.
The first time that a 5250 emulator connects to an AS/400, the AS/400 creates a virtual device that corresponds to the 5250 display or printer session being used. The following is an example of a virtual display device that is created when the 5250 Client is configured to use one of the host code pages listed earlier in this article:

After you apply the update described in this article, the 5250 Client correctly sets the keyboard language type, based on the configured host code page. The following table lists the host code pages and their corresponding keyboard language types:
Host Code Page | Keyboard language type |
Chinese Big-5 (937) | TAB |
Chinese GB (935) | RCB |
Japanese (930) | JKB |
Korean (933) | KOB |
The Chinese Big-5 host code page is also known as the Traditional Chinese host code page. The Chinese GB host code page is also known as the Simplified Chinese host code page.
