SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a new model in Microsoft Project Web Access (PWA) by using the portfolio modeler on a database that has a large number of projects, you may receive the following error message:

Modeling Server Unreachable on servername
Unable to contact the Portfolio Modeling server (mspjwms.dll).
Please see your server administrator

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1.

Microsoft SQL Stored Procedure Update

This update is required to install all ProjectServer patches. To make sure that your ProjectServer has all the fixes that are contained in this patch applied correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Run SQL Query Analyzer.
  2. In the database drop-down box, select the ProjectServer database.
  3. Click File/Open, locate the Websps.sql file (located in the \...\Microsoft Project Server\ Scripts SQL directory), and then open the file.
  4. Click Query/Execute.
  5. When the query is finished running, quit Query Analyzer.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Project Server 2002 Service Pack 1.
