Part 3. Setting the Computer Names and Workgroups

Make sure that the two computers can identify themselves. Each computer must have a computer name and it must be a member of a workgroup. To make sure the computers can identify themselves, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Classic view, double-click System.

  3. Click the Computer Name tab, and then type a description (optional).

  4. Click Change, specify the computer name and the workgroup, and then click OK.

    Notes

    • Assign each computer a different, meaningful name.
    • Assign each computer to the same workgroup.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Restart your computer. To do so, click OK, and then click OK again.
