SYMPTOMS

If you type the Czech language character "s with v" (hexcode of the character is 0x8A uppercase or 0x9A lowercase) in the Type name or Select from list box in an English language Offline Address Book (OAB) with Czech as your default locale, the type down search goes to the first "t" entry instead of the first "s with v" entry. To view the Select Names dialog box, click To in a new e-mail message.

RESOLUTION

Service Pack Information

This problem is corrected in Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3.

Important After you install this service pack, follow the steps that are listed in the "Activate the hotfix" section to set the OAB Sort Locale Override registry key and to activate the hotfix.

Hotfix Information

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Office XP service pack that contains this fix.

Activate the hotfix

Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To activate this hotfix, follow these steps:

  1. Quit Outlook 2002.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Exchange Provider

  4. After you select the key that is specified in step 4, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
  5. Type OAB Sort Locale Override, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click OAB Sort Locale Override, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type the locale that is used to sort the OAB on the Microsoft Exchange server, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This problem was first corrected in Office XP Service Pack 3.
