SYMPTOMS

The Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Message Transfer Agent (MTA) may deliver messages with improperly encoded P2 (content) addresses when messages are addressed with encapsulated addresses that are longer than 128 characters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a logic error in how large encapsulated addresses that are longer than 128 characters are handled. This problem only occurs with non-X.400 addresses that contain long embedded domain-defined attribute (DDA) values. The P1 (envelope) addresses are encoded correctly and the messages are delivered successfully. Only the P2 (content) addresses are encoded incorrectly.
