SYMPTOMS

When you try to delete an item that is in a Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server public folder, you receive the following error message:

An item could not be deleted. You do not have sufficient permission to perform this operation on this object. See the folder contact or your System Administrator.

CAUSE

This problem may occur in the following scenario:

  1. User 1 has a disabled Active Directory Connector user account that is associated to an external Microsoft Windows NT 4 user account in Exchange 2000 Server.
  2. An administrator creates a public folder that is named Folder A on an Exchange 2000 computer and then grants author permissions to User 1 for Folder A.
  3. User 1 posts a new item in Folder A.
  4. The Active Directory Connector user account for User 1 is enabled and the associated external Windows NT user account is disabled.
  5. The sIDHistory value is added and the msExchMasterAccountSID attribute is removed. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

  6. User 1 cannot delete the item that was posted in step 3.
