APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Standard Edition

SYMPTOMS

In either of the following scenarios, the Information Store service in Exchange 2000 may unexpectedly quit:

  • The server experiences a low-memory condition, and Exchange 2000 receives messages that contain large attachments.
  • You perform a mailbox migration operation from one organization to another organization, and during this migration one or more users are removed from the source organization.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the store!GHLIST::RemoveAll() function is called and tries to access an empty object. In this scenario, the information store stops responding (crashes). This problem may occur if the security identifier (SID) cache expires during a mailbox migration operation, or if the information store runs low on memory while an array of objects is initialized. For example, the information store may not be able to allocate memory when it tries to open a message that contains an attachment.
