SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your SQL Server client tools to SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3), DTS Designer and SQL Server Enterprise Manager may disappear unexpectedly because of an unhandled access violation. SQL Server Enterprise Manager may generate an access violation before it disappears that is similar to the following access violation:

    The instruction at "0x77c14d30" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". 

    Click on OK to quit the program
    Click on CANCEL to debug the program

RESOLUTION

Service pack information

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

Hotfix information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
