APPLIES TO

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Service Pack 3

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus cc:Mail to perform a directory synchronization between Active Directory and the Lotus cc:Mail service, user names are incorrectly propagated to Active Directory if the following conditions are true:

  • The user has more than one first name.
  • There is a title before the user's first name.

For example, when you perform a directory synchronization with the Lotus cc:Mail service by using Connector for cc:Mail, if a user is named "Judge Jay Jamison," this user name is incorrectly propagated to Active Directory. When this problem occurs, the space that is between the two first names or the title and first name delimits the first name field. The portion of the name that is after the space is put in the middle initial field and is truncated after six characters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you install Exchange 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3). Under Exchange 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2), the first name was not parsed to determine the initial name during the directory synchronization process.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

After you install this hotfix, the following registry key is created:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeCCMC\Parameters\AllowSpaceInFirstname

You can control how the space is parsed by changing the value data of the registry key in the following manner:

  • If you do not specify the AllowSpaceInFirstname value data, or if it is set to a value of 0, the space after the initial portion of the first name delimits the first name field. This is the default setting.
  • If you set the AllowSpaceInFirstname value to 1 or to a value other than 0, the space is permitted in the first name field and the name is not parsed.
