SYMPTOMS
During text-mode part of the Microsoft Windows 2000 Setup program, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
You receive this error message if the following conditions are true:
- You restart from the Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) CD.
- You install an out-box SCSI/IDE redundant array of independent disks (RAID) adapter with the SCSI/IDE hard disk attached.
- You use the Winnt.sif answer file to perform an unattended installation.
- You specify OemPreinstall=Yes in the Winnt.sif answer file.

Hotfix information
A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 4.
