SUMMARY

This article describes how to use MSN Dial-up Internet service with Mac OS and an AirPort base station.

Mac OS 9 with AirPort 2.0.4

  1. From the Apple menu, open Airport and make sure AirPort is turned on.
  2. Open the AirPort Admin Utility.

    This is usually located in the Applications folder, under Apple Extras, and then under AirPort.

  3. Select Base Station, and then click Configure.
  4. Enter the Base Station password, click the Internet tab, and then enter the following:
    1. In the Connect Using box, select Modem (V.90).
    2. In the Phone number box, select the MSN Internet Access phone number you want to use. You can get the MSN Internet Access number by going to http://supportservices.msn.com/us/phoneaccess.asp and entering your phone number.
      • If you’ve signed in previously with MSN Internet Access, you may also open MSN Internet Access, click Change Settings, click Edit Location, and then click View Access Numbers. Pick one of the numbers from the list and enter it.

        Note Please contact your telephone company to confirm that the numbers you select are local numbers for your area. You are responsible for all long distance charges incurred. MSN will not reimburse you for long distance charges incurred.

    3. In the User Name box, enter your MSN Member Name, including @macmsn.net.
    4. Click Change Password, and then enter your MSN password.
    5. Select a desired Disconnect when idle time.
    6. In the Modem Country Code box, select United States.
    7. In the Login Script box, select None.
    8. If you want the Base Station to dial automatically when you try to use the Internet, select the Automatically Dial checkbox.
    9. Leave all other fields blank.
  5. Click the Network tab, and then do the following:
    1. Check Distribute IP Addresses.
    2. Click Share a single IP address using DHCP and NAT.
  6. Click Update.
  7. Exit the AirPort Admin Utility after the Base Station resets.


Note In most cases, the settings in the TCP/IP control panel are set to AirPort, Using DHCP Server, and all other fields are blank. If you require specific settings, please see your network administrator.

Mac OS X with AirPort 2.0.4

  1. In System Preferences, open Network.
  2. Click the Show popup and select AirPort. Verify that Configure is set to Using DHCP.
  3. Open the AirPort Admin Utility.

  4. Select Base Station, and then click Configure.
  5. Enter the Base Station password, click the Internet tab, and then enter the following:
    1. In the Connect Using box, select Modem (V.90).
