SUMMARY

This article describes what to look for in each step of the process of setting up SharePoint Team Services from installation to usage.

If you participated in the beta test of SharePoint Team Services, delete the "MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments" subWeb from the server before you run SharePoint Team Services Setup. Make sure that SharePoint Portal Server 2001 is not installed on the server where you want to install SharePoint Team Services.

Step 1: Run the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard

During this step of the SharePoint Team Services setup process, look for the following issues:

  • Use an account that has administrator permissions to Microsoft SQL Server. For example, use the System Administrator account.
  • Use the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard to install or provision the FrontPage Server extension to a specific Web site, to the default Web site, or to a customized Web site. You can provision multiple Web sites on a server. The Web site for SharePoint Team Services must have Integrated Windows Authentication for authentication options. Execute permissions must be set for scripts only.
  • SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard will only recognize the first Web site that is assigned to port 80. When additional Web sites are assigned to port 80, you may receive one of the following error messages:

    -or-

    Microsoft Project Server: SharePoint Configuration Wizard Setup Error: Setup Error: Could Not Create the subWeb

    -or-

    VBscript:Microsoft Project Web Access An Error occurred when creating the subWeb. The subWeb does not seem to exist

    When you try to directly create a subWeb from SharePoint Team Services (for example, http://ServerName), you may receive the following error message:

    Could not provision SharePoint based Web site on Website_Name.

Step 2: Review the Following Items

During this step of the SharePoint Team Services setup process, look for the following issues:

  • The home folder for the default Web site is Inetpub\Wwwroot.
  • The Web site must have the correct extensions or the Web site does not display when you run the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard. To look for the correct extensions, follow these steps:
    1. On the SharePoint Team Services administration Web site, click Administration.
    2. Click Upgrade Virtual Server with Microsoft SharePoint.
    3. The site now displays SharePoint-based Web site or SharePoint-based Web site preserve the home page.
  • Any additional subWebs that you create must have Inetpub\Wwwroot as their parent folder.
  • The new subWeb must be assigned to a new port. As of December 2002, the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard does not support virtual Web sites on port 80 that are redirected by using host headers.

  • When you run the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard, you may receive an error message that the Office XP components must be updated. Click Cancel to continue with the wizard.
  • The SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard may generate an error that the subWeb cannot be provisioned for unknown reasons. If this occurs, set the authentication on the Web site to "Integrated Windows Authentication."
  • The SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard may generate the following errors:

  • If the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard generates a "role cannot be created" error, click OK so the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard can continue and complete successfully.
  • If SQL Server is on a different server than where SharePoint Team Services will be installed, follow these steps:
    1. Run the setupse.exe /nd command on the SharePoint Team Services computer. This prevents the installation of MSDE.
    2. After you run Setupse.exe, installation displays the "SharePoint Team Services Administration" page. You must then click Extend on the Web site.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Run the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard.
  • If you are still experiencing issues with SQL Server after you complete these steps:
    1. Make sure that you can visit the SharePoint Team Services Administrative Web site.
    2. Make sure that you can visit a SharePoint Team Services site that was set up by using the default settings.
    3. Validate that you can create subWebs in SharePoint Team Services by using the default settings

Step 3: Add to Server

During this step of the SharePoint Team Services setup process, look for the following issues:

  • If you run the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard before you run Project Server Setup, and then type the SharePoint Team Services information during the Project Server installation, both the Microsoft Project Server COM+ Settings tool (Pscomplus.exe) and Proxy Configuration Utility (Proxycfg.exe) automatically run during Setup.
  • However, if you run the SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard after Project Server is already installed, you must manually run both utilities.
    1. The Microsoft Project Server COM+ Settings tool provides the name of a user account that is impersonated by a COM+ program to make it possible for Project Server to connect to the Analysis Services and SharePoint Team Services computer for Analysis Services (OLAP) access, SharePoint Team Services administration, and SharePoint Team Services database access. Note that the name of a user account is in the DomainName\UserName format.
    2. You must run the Proxy Configuration utility, especially in intranets that may or may not use proxy servers to connect to the Internet or to other servers. Because of the limitations of Microsoft Win32 Internet (WinInet) functions and the XMLHTTP object, the ServerXMLHTTP object was created to allow you to establish server-to-server HTTP connections. The ServerXMLHTTP object does not rely on WinInet but rather on a new HTTP client stack, which is a subset of WinInet and provides a "server-safe" connection. The Proxy Configuration utility makes it possible for you to configure these WinHTTP proxy settings. When you run Proxycfg.exe, use the proxycfg -d -p * "<local>;servername" syntax.
  • The Internet Explorer settings on the local computer must have correct proxy settings for "Add server" to work correctly:
    1. Start Internet Explorer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options, and then click the Connections tab.
    3. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
    4. Click to select the Automatically detect settings check box, click OK, and then click OK again.

Step 4: After You Add to Server

During this step of the SharePoint Team Services setup process, look for the following issues.

  • On the Web Access page, click the Documents tab and the Issues tab to test that you can visit these pages.
  • If you are signed in with a Project Server Account, you must type Windows credentials when you click the Documents tab or the Issues tab. The Windows account must have permissions to the SharePoint subWebs. Note The SharePoint Team Services Configuration Wizard adds files to the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\50\Templates\1033 folder.

Note If you use Add/Remove Programs to remove SharePoint Team Services, remove this folder and the MS_ProjectServer_SharedDocuments subWeb from IIS before you try a new installation.
