SYMPTOMS
When you try to search for a file by using the All files and folders search command, the Look In box may not display any mapped network drives or installed CD-ROM drives.
CAUSE
This problem may occur if a policy is set to hide local drives.

The English version of this fix has the file attributes (or later) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time tool in Control Panel.

To work around this problem, type the drive path in the Look In box.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
MORE INFORMATION
After you install this update, with the Group Policy set to hide local drives, the Local Hard Drives (Drive_letter
:) search option is still available, but it does not provide direct access to the now hidden drives. However, it does search other available folders that are physically stored on your local drives such as My Documents, Desktop, and others.
