SUMMARY

Bitstream Fontware support for the Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet III is available from HP by calling (303) 353-7650 and requesting the Bitstream Fontware Module for the HP LaserJet III.

This module is designed to work with Bitstream Fontware version 3.0 and does not work directly with Fontware version 2.0 for Microsoft Word. This module also does not include typefaces.

However, it is possible to run this module stand alone with the typeface disks from the Bitstream Fontware 2.0 Installation Kit for Microsoft Word. The module will not be able to create printer drivers for Word; however, it will create TFM (Tagged Font Metric) files that can be used with the MergePRD utility.

The following are Instructions for using the Bitstream Fontware Module for the HP LaserJet III with Microsoft Word 5.50.

1. Install the Bitstream Fontware Module as described in the module’s documentation.
2. After installation, choose Add Typefaces from the main menu. Insert the typeface disk that comes with the Bitstream Fontware Installation Kit for Microsoft Word.
3. Create the downloadable fonts and TFM files. Choose to display the Fontware Summary report and write down the fonts and the corresponding TFM filenames.
4. Exit Fontware change to the directory where the fonts and TFM files were stored by the Fontware program. If it is a directory other than the Word 5.50 program directory, copy MergePRD.EXE to the directory. Also, copy one of the HP III downloadable drivers, HP3FONT*.PRD, and the corresponding DAT files (and INI files if applicable).
5. Run the MergePRD utility, following the directions on pages 294-295 on the “Printer Information for Microsoft Word” version 5.50 manual under the section titled “Adding Support for LaserJet Fonts.” Refer to the Fontware Summary information when prompted for filenames during step 5 on page 295.
