Summary:

Outlining cannot be saved if the worksheet is saved as part of a workspace, and the Show Outline Symbols button on the tool bar is not depressed to display the outline symbols prior to closing the workspace.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Open two worksheets.
  2. Create an outline on one of the worksheets. Click the Show Outline Symbols button on the tool bar to display the outline symbols.
  3. From the File menu, choose Save Workspace.
  4. Choose OK for all following options.
  5. Click the Show Outline Symbols button on the tool bar to hide the outline symbols.
  6. While holding down the SHIFT key, select the File menu and choose Close All. Choose OK for all following options.
  7. Open the workspace.
  8. Activate the sheet that contains the outline and depress the Show Outline Symbols button.
  9. The following message results: “Cannot show outline symbols. No outline exists on current worksheet. Create one?” Choose OK. A new message results: “Modify existing one?” Choose OK. The previous outlining will be replaced with the modified outlining.

Workarounds

  1. Save the workspace again after making the change in Step 5 above.
  2. Choose not to save changes to the worksheet when you are prompted to do so in Step 6.
