SUMMARY

The following information outlines the steps for exporting a ZSoft Image (PCX) file from Micrografx Designer version 3.01 for use with Microsoft Word version 5.0 or 5.5. Although likely similar, these steps may vary from earlier versions of Micrografx Designer.

Steps to Export

  1. Select the symbols to be included in the exported file, or select no symbols to export the entire drawing.

  2. From the File menu, choose Export.

  3. Enter a name for the file with no extension.

  4. Highlight the PCX ZSoft Image File export option, choose the Export command, and press ENTER. Designer automatically adds a file extension depending on the output format chosen (PCX is the extension assigned in this case).

  5. In the PCX Output Configuration dialog box that follows, select either Monochrome or Color Format. In addition, select either the Screen or Printer Device option. Select OK and press ENTER to write the file.

Note: Regardless of the option you select, the image will preview as monochrome in Microsoft Word version 5.0.

MORE INFORMATION

According to Micrografx, the Device area of the PCX Output Configuration dialog box is designed to allow for the resolution selection of the exported PCX file. If the Screen option is selected, the image is exported at the resolution of the current display device. If the Printer Device option is selected, the image is exported at the resolution of the currently selected printer. Selecting the Printer option may result in a more resolute image, but if the current printer is not a color device, the image will export in monochrome format.
