The information in this article applies to: |
- Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.1a |
Summary:
The following are limitations of file conversions between Word for Windows version 1.x and Works for MS-DOS versions 1.0, 1.05, and 2.0 using the Word for MS-DOS file converter CONV-WWP.DLL.
Conversion to and from Works for MS-DOS affects the following Word for Windows features:
- Headers and footers must be located at the beginning of the Works document to be converted.
- Works does not have different right and left headers. If one of the two is present in a Word for Windows document, it is preserved in the Works document. If right and left headers are both present, the longer of the two, including formatting, is preserved.
- Works allows part of a header to be flush left, part to be centered, and part to be flush right. The header is converted to a single paragraph in Word for Windows (because all headers are paragraphs in Word for Windows) with tabs separating the parts of the original header.
Merge Documents
The merge function works the same way in Works as it does in Word for MS-DOS. To convert chevrons as literal text, add the following two lines to your WIN.INI file:
[PCWorksConv] ConvertMerge=No
Styles
- All styles are converted to Works as direct formatting.
Graphics
- Graphics are lost when converting to Works.
Tables
- Tables in Word for Windows are converted to paragraphs in Works.
Absolute-Positioned Objects (APO)
- Works does not support absolute-positioned objects.
- Absolute-positioned objects are vertically positioned in line when converted to Works.
Tables of Contents and Indexes
- Table of contents and index entries are lost when converting to Works. However, the generated table of contents or index is preserved.
&f
- The footer code is lost when converting from Works to Word for Windows.
Glossaries and Outlines
- Glossary information and outline structure in Word for Windows are lost when converting to Works.
Annotations
- Annotations in Word for Windows are converted to footnotes in Works.
Tab Leaders
- Tab leaders for default tabs in Works are lost when converting to Word for Windows.
Footnotes with User-Defined Reference Marks
- When converting from Word for Windows to Works, only the first character of a user-defined footnote reference mark is converted.
