Summary:
Excel for OS/2 will produce garbage characters in the directory lists when trying to access a file on a drive produced by the IBM PC Support software.
This software is similar to network software because it makes an AS/400 hard drive appear like a network-accessible drive. Similar behavior has been reported in Word for OS/2 version 1.10.
Microsoft and IBM have confirmed this to be a problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.

It has been reported that files can be saved to and read from an AS/400 drive connected in this manner, but the directory listings are garbled.
