PWB 1.00/1.10 May Not Redraw Screen Correctly with Low Memory ID Number: Q70917

Summary:
When using the Microsoft Programmer’s WorkBench (PWB) version 1.00 or 1.10, a low-memory condition may prevent the screen from being refreshed (redrawn) correctly after a drop-down menu has been used.
This problem occurs only under DOS, and only if PWB is started with a low amount of available DOS memory (for example, 300K available memory will cause this problem). When some of the drop-down menus are selected and then canceled (by pressing ESC), the region that the drop-down menu occupied on the screen will not be refreshed, and instead, will remain black.
Using the PGUP (page up) and PGDN (page down) keys will partially refresh the screen. To force a complete screen update, you can either maximize and restore the current window (by pressing CTRL+F10 twice) or you can execute the “meta message” command (by pressing ALT+A, typing “meta message”, and then pressing F7).
To eliminate the problem completely, just free up more DOS memory so there is more available memory when PWB is started.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PWB versions 1.00 and 1.10. We are researching this problem and will post new information here as it becomes available.
