The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Word for Windows versions 1.0, 1.1, and 1.1a

Summary:

The following is information on available alternatives for converting files from Hewlett-Packard’s (HP) HPWord word processor, running on either the HP 3000 system or on an IBM compatible PC, to a file format recognized by Microsoft Word for Windows.

HPWord/3000 versions A.05.06 and later include (as a purchase option) a file conversion utility named WORDUTIL that supports conversion to, among others, the IBM DCA[RFT] file format. WORDUTIL is designed to run in the HP 3000 operating environment. Converted files must be subsequently downloaded directly, or transferred via communications software and a binary file transfer protocol, to the IBM PC on which Word for Windows is installed.

With versions of HPWord earlier than A.05.06, this utility was only available as a separately purchased add-on accessory to Hewlett-Packard’s operating platform HPDesk.

Support for HPWord is the sole responsibility of the Hewlett-Packard corporation. For more information on HPWord/3000 or the WORDUTIL conversion utility, contact the Hewlett-Packard Business Systems Group at (800) 752-0900.

Microsoft has not tested this conversion and cannot guarantee proper functionality.

More Information:

The WORDUTIL utility is an entry point into the HPWord/3000 program that allows you to configure and control portions of HPWord. One of the functions in WORDUTIL is the ability to perform document conversion to DCA[RFT] file format.

Additional conversion options of WORDUTIL allow conversion of documents from HPWord/3000 to HP’s other word processors, including HPSlate on the 3000, AdvanceWrite, and HPWord/PC. HP Advancewrite Plus file format is recognized by Mastersoft Corporation’s Word for Word and Windows Word for Word file conversion products, and may provide a superior alternative to using DCA[RFT] as an intermediate conversion format.

Mastersoft is now owned by Inso. For more information, please contact Inso. For information about how to contact Inso, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
