No Gray Scale Support for Colored Cell Borders on HP Printers PSS ID Number: Q70651 Article last modified on 06-10-1993 PSS database name: W_eXceL

WINDOWS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 3.0

Summary:

If you use one of the Hewlett-Packard (HP) printer drivers, cells formatted with colored borders in Microsoft Excel version 3.00 will print in solid black, rather than trying to pattern the border according to the color selected. The actual border pattern selected is retained; however, it will look the same regardless of the color chosen.

More Information:

The Microsoft Windows 3.00 PostScript printer driver will print a gray scale (dithered) equivalent of the color selected for a cell border. The HP printer drivers will print only black. This is because the HP drivers do not support dithering of border patterns. Any color choices made for a cell border are effectively overridden when that cell is printed.
