UAE with PERT Chart in Lower Pane in Project for Windows

SUMMARY

It is possible to get an Unrecoverable Application Error (UAE) in Microsoft Project for Windows when the PERT Chart is in the lower pane. This problem does not occur in Project version 3.00 since Pert charts cannot be placed in the lower pane.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

  1. Start Project for Windows.
  2. From the View menu, choose Define Views.
  3. Select Task Entry and Edit.
  4. Select Gantt Chart as the top pane and PERT Chart as the lower pane, Choose OK and Set.
  5. Enter a task name in the Gantt Chart.
  6. Select the Pert Node in the lower pane and create a new node by clicking and dragging.
  7. Repeat step 6 on the new node.
  8. Click the newest node and attempt to link it to the preceding node.
  9. The message “Cannot Have The Same Task As Predecessor and Successor” will appear.
  10. Choose OK.
  11. From the Project’s control bar, (ALT + minus sign) choose close.
  12. The message “Unrecoverable Application Error: Terminating Current Application” will appear and exit you from Project.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Project for Windows version 1.00. This problem was corrected in Project for Windows version 3.00.
