- Microsoft Word for the Macintosh versions 3.0, 3.01, 3.02, 4.0, 5.0, 5.1

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, you can put a data field within an ASK statement so that the ASK dialog box shows the field information from the record being merged.

The following example will display the contents of the current “Name” field (“Bob”) in the ASK dialog box:

Dear <<ASK Title=? Enter a Title for <<Name>>:>> < <Title>

<<Name>>:

This statement will display the following dialog box:

-----------------------------------------------------------

| Enter a Title for Bob: —- | | | OK | | | —- | | |————————————| ———— | | | | | Stop Merge | | | |————————————| ———— | ———————————————————–

When a form letter containing the above ASK statement is merged, it will contain a line that says:

Dear <Mrs., Mr., Ms. – whatever was put into the ASK dialog box> Bob:
