Cursor Position After Print Screen PSS ID Number: Q70279 Article last modified on 07-14-1993 PSS database name: O_MSDOS

MS-DOS

The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft MS-DOS operating system versions 4.x

Summary:

The cursor may not return to the prompt after a print screen is performed when you use an enhanced keyboard and ANSI.SYS is loaded.

This behavior can be duplicated on a machine with an enhanced keyboard and ANSI.SYS loaded. Perform a print screen by pressing the PRINT SCREEN key or key sequence that is correct for your system. The cursor moves to the top-left corner (position 0,0) of the screen; however, the prompt isn’t restored. To restore the prompt, type “CLS” (without the quotation marks).

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in versions 4.0, 4.01, and 4.01a. This problem does not occur in later versions of MS-DOS.
