Word 5.50: Text Display Modes Ending with (Attr)

SUMMARY
In Microsoft Word version 5.50, if a text display mode option that ending with “(Attr)” is selected from the View Preferences Display Mode list box, Word will display characters formatted for the following attributes in a gray background instead of the normal black background:
- Italic
- Underline
- Double underline
- Small kaps
- All caps
- Strikethru
- Hidden
- Superscript
- Subscript
(Attr) text display modes are only available with certain display adapters that operate in monochrome display modes, such as Hercules and Genius display adapters.
The (Attr) text display modes are designed to make formatted document text easier to locate on the screen. Using an (Attr) display mode does not have an affect on characters formatted for the bold attribute; they will continue to display in high intensity white.
