SUMMARY

If you draw a two-character line with Microsoft Word’s line draw feature, the line will print as dashes on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet. The two character line will display in the edit screen and Print Preview as a solid line, but will still print as a dashed line.

If you enter three or more line draw characters, the line will Print Preview as a solid line and print as a solid line.

This is by design in Microsoft Word.

MORE INFORMATION

Instead of using the line draw character for short lines (two characters), you can use the em dash character.

The em dash character is entered with the following key combination:

CTRL+ALT+HYPHEN

The equivalent of two line draw characters would be two em dash characters formatted for the CourierPC font.
